OUR STORY
Your hosts are Dannie, Andrew and our three growing children.
We are a very small independent, family run glamping site.
We both grew up in small villages and met at uni - but you don't want to know that.. lol
We moved to Devon in 2003 and have been part of the Mid Devon community, living in a small village near the Blackdown hills since 2006. All 3 of our children were born in Devon so we have lots of local knowledge of places to go, eat and entertain the children even on a rainy day.
We are passionate about providing Autism Friendly Glamping Holidays because we are an Autistic Family. We know it takes more than just a basket of sensory toys and a social story to make a neurodiverse friendly environment.
Initially we designed our luxury glamping site around the needs and experience of our neuro-spicy family - PDA, ADHD, ASC, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Speech disorders and delays, Sensory Processing, over extending joints, a runner or two, many fun continence issues and Dyscalculia among other things. Over time we have also acted on feedback from guests to continually improve our holidays to support other neurodivergent families to enjoy a relaxing whole family holiday in rural Devon.
Our Story started at Leafy Fields Glamping back in 2016 with just 2 bell tents on a 28 day licence, in a bare field with little hedging or biodiversity. We started our business from scratch. By 2017 we had achieved planning permission and the safari lodges had arrived. Crivens shepherd hut was built in 2018.
It was important to us to improve the natural environment of our site as well as providing great holidays. We have planted hundreds of trees and native hedging over the years and each year leave areas to grow long grass improving habitats for wildlife like hedgehogs, frogs, rabbits, squirrels and birds. We also keep mini sheep and pygmy goats who also improve the quality of the soil, encouraging earth worms and then moles.
We run our site ourselves from the cleaning to the welcome, website and social media to grounds maintenance and wildlife conservation work, so your holiday experience is as important to us, as it is to you.
Although we do not live on site we are happy to be on hand with local knowledge and activity ideas. We are on site every day feeding animals and running the site, we are always happy to chat, whether it is the SEN struggles common to us all or recommendations for a good place to eat or paddle in a stream.
We are passionate about this corner of the south west and can't wait to share it with you.
We have worked hard to create a space were you can relax and be yourself among the neurodiverse community of Leafy Fields friends and guests.
